Consequences of notation
Notation is instrument and the mold at the same time. This interests me tremendously. I was allways interested in notating my movements, first throuh Feuillet and now Laban notation. The first and very obvious consequence of this is that I am producing without any effort and unconsciously easy to notate movements. My partner on the other hand feels no such constraint and she is producing movements...

Notation
I will have to do some notation in the coming months. I have to say I am pretty new at this so if anybody can check if it makes any sense whatsoever I would be very, very gratefull. The link for editing is here.

Enteré d'Apollon FL/1704.1/30
Choreographed by Pécour and published by Feuillet in 1704 this is one of the more difficult male solos which have survived from baroque times.  I am working on it about half a year now (with Maria Muehlbacher from Neoba)and still I have feeling I have just begun.  Well this is work for professional dancer, thats one thing. The required level of technique is higher than mine, for sure. But I have...

The Future
Well I have started thinking about what i will do when, in the end of August, I will return to Prague. At the moment I have no big pull towards teaching dance to be frank. I ned to get my body back to working order first. But my brain never really stoped producing movements and ideas, so I guess I will gather small troupe of like-minded people and begin my own take on baroque/contemporary...

experiments in dance →
via quodlibet: French biologist-turned-choreographer Xavier Le Roy, […] talks about his leap from science to dance. He revisits his performances, such as Le Sacre du Printemps (2007), and explores the difference between collaborative and solo work [guardian.co.uk] a video interview at the guardian, looking at the notion of performance as an experiment with the audience.

Yet another exercise
This exercise is by my friend, called Xen. It is in fact the begining of this solo male sarabande replanted onto Folies d’Espagne music. In this exercise is easy to see clever way they choreographed their dances in 18. century. Thanks Lada for her comments which clarified this exercise for me.

Tango and CI workshop in Prague
Javier Cura was in Prague and I visited his workshop about tango and CI. Not so much tango in fact - it was in fact mainly about CI and physical theatre. How to put expressivity into such intimate dance like CI so it can speak to audience more easily. We just took CI as empty vessel and tried to put something into. That was interesting. On the other hand there was too much just playing and little...

Every once a while HAMU will organize one or two day meeting of students and dance scientist to present their ongoing research and to meet and talk. I was not able to contribute this time, but I was there. Here are some highlights: Petra Dotlačilová spoke about polemics between Angiolini and Noverre. It was interesting to hear about other point of view (other than Noverre’s which is well...

Baletománie
So for the second time I visited dancing collage from national theatre called Baletománie. I must admit that I am not brave enough to unleash full power of my critisism and I do not want to do it because dancing was basically good. It was “Shut up and dance!” feeling. As long as there was dancing it was great, good or OK. But when they start to speak It was just pure embarrasment....

New exercise - Sarabande
So I wrote down another exercise, this time it is slow one danced to sarabande music. Should any of you try it please remember the sarabande suspension. It is only from the right leg and it should be repeated from the other leg. And yes it is without port de bras… for now. As always if you see any error in the notation - let me know! Update: There was a mistake in the notation, now it...

Dance dance... 2008 in Jablonec
I was for long time curious about amateur dancers community in the northern part of Czech republic. There is very active, very well organised group of dance teachers around the nothern city of Liberec but I have almost no contact with them. So I was sitting in the cute small theatre in the city of Jablonec watching choreographies and once again thinking that ve do have good dancers but we are...

So you think...
You know - here in Czech Republic we are way behind. :o) For last two or so months I was watching So You Think You Can Dance TV show.  All four seasons in one go. I deeply admire bravery of the people who had guts to broadcast this in prime time. This competition clearly show why USA is world leader in dance. It would never work in Czech Republic. As I mentioned earlier although we do have able...

Playfull physics - Rob Anderson in Prague
So this guy (second one) was teaching us this weekend in Prague how to fly. The situation in Prague CI community just now looks quite promising - right active people are on right places and our ties to international community are slowly strengthening. In prague there is only small number of good CI teachers (um, two?) and they have their own style. Rob brought more international style, CI in...

Backlog - The Journal of the Dance Master
So lets get back to business. More than two months ago I attended performance called The Journal of the Dance Master. Danced and choreographed by Gudrun Skamletz (who danced in Que ma joie demeure by Béatrice Massin and in Le Burgeois Gentilhomme by Moliére) and directed by Jean-Denis Monory who also played the title role, this performance seemed promising. Accompanied by Collegium Marianum...

Struny podzimu
It seem that finally Prague is begining to be aware about baroque music and baroque dancers and musicians are in turn starting to come into Prague on regular basis. 1.11. Les Arts Florissants with William Christie will come to Prague and they will be performing concert version of their trademark - Les Indes Galantes by Rameau from 1735. This is the first time when one of leading authentic...

Time to resume!
Well. I haven’t submitted my PhD thesis yet, but it is pretty much finished. I am just waiting for approval from my supervisor and for comments from my colleagues. I have started my new job as scientist and everything is slowly slowly settling down. But. I am now officially student again. My dance science study has began and now I am choosing lectures and trainings. Of course I will have...
